Decisions

Hill of Crosses in Siauliai, Lithuania 2005.
Underpass in Frankfurt, Germany on our way to see Sigur Ros for the first time, 2005.

I have been looking at a lot of my old photos over the last few days, reminiscing about previous trips. It is making me look forward a lot to this new one we are about to embark on (well, at the end of August).

We have made some decisions - we are going to get married in the US. We aren't sure where though, many ideas have been tossed around: Big Sur? San Antonio? Portland (Oregon)? Portland (Maine)? Savannah? I think realistically that the place will be in the State that has the easiest requirements to meet to obtain a marriage licence.

We are planning on about 10 weeks away. That should give us enough time to see a bit of the States, get married, get to Toronto to visit everyone, go to Cuba for a honeymoon within a honeymoon, then spend some time in New Zealand and Canberra before heading back to Melbourne. We will end up having celebrations of varying sizes and forms in five locations in all: the undetermined spot in the US, Toronto, Tauranga, Canberra and Melbourne. A veritable marriage whirlwind.

Luckily enough we will also be able to coordinate our schedule with the touring schedule of a number of different bands. We have already bought our tickets to this in the Catskills. We will be staying at the Best Western Monticello with our pals C & C from Toronto.

T and I are now going to watch this

What are we going to do?

T and I have been talking today about where we live. We have both grown to love Melbourne in a lot of ways, but there is something that still niggles us both. I think we are both a bit scared of the big commitments expected of people in their early 30's (children, buying a house and all that stuff). I think we are getting closer to a solution.

First things first though. I am really excited about getting married later this year. We started drafting some itineraries today (which is more like coordinating the tour schedules of My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai, Nine Inch Nails and Deerhunter around the US!)

At least it was easy to make a decision about what to make for dinner - soy mirin tofu over brown rice with peanut sauce and steamed broccoli from my favourite vegan website
